Number 40: Buy a cottage
October 10, 2019
Anybody who knows me knows how much I love the water. I grew up on Trout Lake in North Bay. I spent so much time in the water growing up I'm surprised I'm not still water logged. As a teenager, I was a lifeguard and swimming instructor. I continued that student job into university and even lifeguarded a little bit once I moved to Lively.
It has been my dream since I married to someday own a waterfront property. I have been very fortunate over the years to have continued access to lakes. Not only do we live in a city with 330 lakes, my parents have continued to own a wonderful variety waterfront property in North Bay. My parents-in-law also owned a lovely "camp" on Manitoulin Island until a few years ago.
The desire to own my own little piece of water paradise came to a point of insanity this past year. My middle life crisis perhaps. I succeeded in driving my entire family bananas as I searched for the perfect place that would bring me joy but also not make my family not want to lock me up and throw away the key.
As I have been told by very wise friends, when the perfect place comes along, you will know it. Trying to turn everyplace into the perfect place isn't going to work. I was almost ready to give up when the ideal little place presented itself. I am very happy to say that as of April 1. 2020, I will be able to call this little piece of paradise mine!
